About manuel castillero

Manuel Castillero (Córdoba, 1976) studied advertising drawing and illustration at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades Mateo Inurria in his hometown. His work is rooted in figurative painting, yet imbued with an atmosphere of dystopia, apocalypse, and science fiction. Castillero’s canvases often depict deserted urban landscapes and interiors, stripped of human presence, where silence and light become the true protagonists. The result is an unsettling stillness, a poetic tension that turns everyday spaces into visual prophecies.

He has received notable recognition, including the Figurativas Prize awarded by the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, for works of striking visual impact and critical reflection such as “The Day in Which Silence Reigned in Congress.” His paintings have been exhibited widely in Spain and abroad, in cities including Córdoba, Granada, Barcelona, and Tangier.

Castillero’s artistic practice builds a bridge between the contemplative and the disturbing, offering a vision of architecture and landscape as both mirrors and critiques of our present time.
